# How to Let Investors Review Documents Without Downloading or Printing (2026)

**Short answer:** do not send the files. Share them through a secure viewer – a tracked link or a data room – where you switch off download and printing, require each investor to verify their e-mail, and stamp their e-mail on every page as a watermark. Investors still read every page in the browser, and you can revoke access at any time. A PDF permissions password is not enough: it only sets a flag that many PDF apps ignore. No tool can stop a screenshot or a phone photo, which is why the per-viewer watermark matters most: a leaked page shows who leaked it.

## How to let investors read everything but keep nothing

1. **Convert to PDF and upload to a secure viewer** – a document-sharing tool for a deck or a few files, a data room for diligence.
2. **Turn off download and printing** for the link or the room. Investors read in the browser on any device.
3. **Require e-mail verification** with a one-time code, or allow only named e-mails or domains – so a forwarded link does not open for someone else.
4. **Switch on a dynamic watermark** with the viewer's e-mail (and date) on every page.
5. **Use one link or one guest account per investor**, so analytics and revocation work per person.
6. **Add an NDA before access** for diligence material, if your process needs one.
7. **Set an expiry date** and revoke access when the round or deal closes.
8. **Keep the most sensitive files for later stages** – a first-touch deck should not contain your full model.

## What no tool can stop

A reader can always photograph the screen or retype numbers. "Screenshot protection" in browsers and apps makes capture harder on some devices, never impossible – Ansarada and Microsoft say so in their own documentation. That is why the realistic goal is **traceability and control**: the viewer's e-mail on every page, one link per person, an activity log, and the ability to cut access the moment a deal changes. Investors rarely object to view-only access for diligence material; for a first-touch pitch deck, keep it simple (an e-mail check and a watermark) so you do not lose their attention.

## FAQ

### How can I stop investors from downloading or printing my documents?

Share them through a secure viewer or data room with download and printing turned off, e-mail verification, and a watermark with each investor's e-mail. They read every page in the browser; you can revoke access at any time.

### Does a password on the PDF stop printing and copying?

Not reliably. The permissions password only sets a flag that each PDF app may or may not honour, and once the file is sent you cannot take it back or see who opened it.

### Can I stop investors from forwarding a link?
